Cases of mumps in the region:

Northwestern Health Unit has been notified of cases of mumps in some communities in the region.

Mumps is a viral illness that can be prevented by vaccination. There is no treatment for mumps
The most common symptoms of mumps are swollen, painful cheeks and neck, fever, headache, muscle
aches, weakness and loss of appetite. Complications are rare, but may occur.

If you or someone on a team or other group you are involved with does get mumps, it is important that
there is support for that person to stay home for 5 days after the symptoms begin to reduce the spread
to others, and to allow that person to get well.
