June 2015

Dear Families,

I can’t believe it’s already June.  This is both a happy and sad time for me as I retire from my current role.  It has certainly gone by quickly and I have enjoyed working with your children and you.  Mrs. Vinczeffy will also be retiring from her role as Vice Principal and Student Work Study Teacher.  We will greatly miss the excitement of all the learning that takes place at Sacred Heart daily.  We hope you welcome Brody Marsonet, the new principal and  Kim Savoie as the new vice principal.

During my 23 years at Sacred Heart, I was so blessed to work with such an amazing team of professionals.  I thank our staff who give more than 110% every day and who by their actions show they truly care about your children’s safety and education.  Please continue to partner closely with them to ensure your child’s well-being and academic growth.  It is especially important over the summer to make reading and math part of everyday life as many students slide back a grade when they do not continue to use the skills learned. Mrs. Vinczeffy and I are so very grateful to have worked with the excellence and dedication that we witness daily by our staff members. We will dearly miss working with our staff and your families.

It truly takes a community to raise children who are resilient, think of others and set goals to achieve their academic potential.   This takes many volunteers who became part of the everyday life at our school such as:  School Council members, nutrition bin volunteers, skating and curling volunteers, talent show helpers, cross- country tracking, Cedar Bay excursions, money rollers, hot dog lunches and sound equipment set up for our Christmas concerts. Your children were so well supported by the many community volunteers and for that I am so thankful.

Staff has planned many outings such as: the Grade 8 Toronto trip, Fort William, baseball and Museum trips. It is important that you continue to ensure that your children follow a daily routine during the week to enable them to be as attentive to learning and thinking as possible.   Please continue to ensure your child comes dressed appropriately for school.  It is important they have a good pair of outdoor runners to safeguard their safety and make it easy for them to run or climb the play equipment.   With the warmer weather, a hat is also a must.  If they are riding their bike to school, please make sure they are wearing a helmet.

Report cards will be given out on Friday, June 26th, 2015 which is the last day of school.  Mrs. Kirton will be here for the week following the last day of school.  Please call her if you did not receive your child’s report card.

Yours sincerely,

Susan MacLellan
