Important notice from NWHU

Is your child protected?

Ontario’s Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA) requires that parents of children attending primary or secondary school provide their local health unit with proof of their child’s immunization record against designated diseases. As of July 1, 2014 Meningitis (Meningococcal), Whooping Cough (Pertussis), and Chicken Pox (Varicella) have been added to the list of designated diseases and are now required immunizations for school attendance.

Children and adolescents who have received all recommended vaccines as per the Ontario schedule will not require any further immunizations. Changes were made to improve the health and safety of school children as these diseases can easily spread in schools. For more information phone your local Northwestern Health Unit office.

September 16, 2014

Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s),

Beginning on Monday, September 22, 2014 we will be restructuring the school day so that it represents a true balanced day.  This means that students will get two 40 minute breaks in their day instead of 30 minutes and a sixty minute lunch break.  This will allow us to stagger both recesses so that students have 20 minutes to eat and 20 minutes for recess outside.  It also allows us to have students in grades 1 to 4 out for one recess and grades 5 to 8s for the other half of the same break. We are finding that the students are making more use of the play structures and are more active during recess with having fewer students on the playground at once.

Classes will commence at 8:45 as per usual and dismissal time will remain at 3:15 p.m.  Here are the times for the altered recesses and instructional times effective on Monday, September 22, 2014.

8:45 a.m.:                              First Bell

8:45 to 10:25a.m.:            Block One for Instructional /Learning Time

10:25 to 10:45a.m.:          Outdoor Recess Break for Grades 5 to 8 students and

Nutrition Break for students in Grades 1 to 4

10:45 to 11:05a.m.:          Outdoor Recess Break for Grades 1 to 4 students and

Nutrition Break for students in Grades 5 to 8

11:05 to 12:45p.m.:          Block Two for Instructional/Learning Time

12:45 to 1:05p.m.:            Outdoor Recess Break for Grades 5 to 8 students and

Nutrition Break for students in Grades 1 to 4

1:05 to 1:25p.m.:              Outdoor Recess Break for Grades 1 to 4 students and

Nutrition Break for students in Grades 5 to 8

1:25 to 3:05 p.m.:             Block Three for Instructional/Learning Time

3:05 to 3:15 p.m.:             Dismissal Time:  Students get ready to go home

3:15 p.m.:                           Final Bell rings and students are dismissed

Thank you for supporting the above change as well as the safety of our students during bussing times.  The Kiss and Ride program is running smoothly.  Thank you for your suggestions and your help.
